DESCRIPTION:Beth Shalom Congregation in Columbia will welcome Samson Nderitu Njogu as its rabbinic intern-in-residence on the weekend of Apr. 12-14. \nNjogu is from Uganda’s Abayudaya Jewish community and is a rabbinical student at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles. \nMembers of the Ugandan Jewish community praying in synagogue. (File photo)\nThe weekend will feature a sampling African Jewish traditions and melodies\, and Njogu will speak about his own Jewish journey and the Abayudaya community. Njogu has served as president of the Abayudaya’s youth movement and tutored young community members preparing for their b’nai mitzvah. Nominated for a Latin Grammy®\, Sonia’s music has been hailed by Billboard as “one of the Latin Children’s music artists you should know.” \nApril 21 – Fyütch:\nGrammy-nominated artist Fyütch uses Hip-Hop\, spoken word\, and visual storytelling to create unique experiences promoting racial equity and liberation. \nApril 28 – Dan and Claudia Zanes:\nGrammy award-winning performer Dan Zanes\, along with Haitian-American music therapist and jazz vocalist Claudia Zanes\, will enchant audiences with artful modern-day folk music. \nOpening Acts by BSO\, BSYO\, and Peabody Youth Ensemble:\nEach concert will kick off with performances by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra\, Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras\, and Peabody Youth Ensemble\, showcasing the remarkable musical talent within our community. \nCrafts\, Activities\, and Food:\nIn addition to the musical performances\, families can engage in natural\, hands-on crafts and activities\, including a drumming circle with Stages Music Arts and a nature scavenger hunt. Join veteran Baltimore director and Vagabond Players board member\, Steve Goldklang\, for this 2-hour workshop for new directors that will cover the following key topic areas: \nWhat does a director do?\nSelecting and pitching your play to a theatre\nCreating a vision for your production\nAssembling a production team\nAuditions and casting your production\nCreating a rehearsal schedule\nThe rehearsal process \nFACILITATOR: Steve Goldklang has been directing in the Baltimore theater community for over forty years; many of his productions have been at Vagabond Players and Fells Point Corner Theatre and include: Doubt (currently running)\, Broadway Bound\, A Doll’s House Part 2\, Brighton Beach Memoirs\, Blithe Spirit\, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike\, The Odd Couple\, The Lion in Winter\, Born Yesterday\, Frost/Nixon\, The Divine Sister\, Cock\, A Delicate Balance\, Art\, and Six Degrees of Separation.
