A fun and communal way to help celebrate the High Holiday season and enjoy some outside time with friends\, old and new. \nTashlich\, meaning to cast away\, is a ritual associated with the High Holiday season that invites us to reflect on what no longer serves us and cast it away. In preparation for a new Jewish calendar year\, this practice allows us to start the year with a little less weighing on our spirit. With each pebble we cast into the waters\, we release that which we want to shed before Yom Kippur begins\, and a new year is underway. \nFrom 11 – 11:30 am\, Rabbis Andy Gordon and Jessy Dressin will lead a brief program with story\, song\, and guidance for how to take part in the tashlich ritual. SUMMARY:Concert to Raise Funds for Brain Injury Association
DESCRIPTION:The Brain Injury Association of Maryland (BIAMD)  will hold “Bands for Brains 2026” on Saturday\, Sept. 26\, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Peabody Heights Brewery\, 401 East 30th Street in Baltimore’s Waverly neighborhood. \n“Bands for Brains” is a community concert fundraiser to support Marylanders affect by brain injury\, featuring performances from such local bands and DJs as Champ\, Medusa Stage\, Tongue Scraper\, DJ Jason MacLeod and DJ Huge Problem. \nIn addition\, concert-goers can play pinball and other retro games in The Dugout arcade bar and the Bullpen adjacent to the brewery’s main taproom. Food and beverages (including a signature mixed drink)\, as well as raffle tickets and event t-shirts\, will be available for purchase. \nThis year’s concert is BIAMD’s third “Bands for Brains” event. The event was originally created by Riley Granek of Owings Mills\, in honor of her mother\, Jennifer\, whose traumatic brain injury (TBI) from an ATV accident during a 40th birthday trip to Costa Rica in 2015 left her in a minimally conscious state. Sadly\, Jennifer Granek passed away in April of 2022. \nRiley Granek recently received the BIAMD’s Frances Bateson Dexter Award. (Provided)\nRiley\, a guitar player\, organized a 2021 virtual concert with five bands as an independent study during her junior year at The Park School. She created a website\, promoted the concert and launched it on YouTube in 2021\, raising over $5\,000 for BIAMD. \nDetermined to have “Bands for Brains” as a live event\, Riley organized a follow-up concert as her senior project. The event took place in May of 2022 with six local bands performing at Union Craft Brewery\, and raised approximately $12\,000. \nBIAMD recently bestowed Riley Granek with its Frances Bateson Dexter Award for her dedication to and support of the nonprofit. Now a college graduate\, Riley  continues to play an active role in “Bands for Brains” with BIAMD Support Services Case Manager and Legislative Liaison Ruth Carlock\, who survived a TBI as a child. A part-time drummer\, Carlock will perform with Medusa Stage at “Bands for Brains 2026.” \nEvent proceeds will help BIAMD provide education\, advocacy\, support groups\, care coordination\, resource navigation and community programs for brain injury survivors\, caregivers and families throughout Maryland. \nAdmission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door\, and free for kids under 12.
