The Pikesville Community Mural Team recently announced that Jaz Erenberg as artist for the community mural. \nA Baltimore resident\, Erenberg has a long background in community and public artwork\, and is a co-founder of Baltimore’s BRUSH Fest.  She is a 2017 graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art and former designer-in-residence for the Neighborhood Design Center. Her works can be found in Belair-Edison\, Sandtown-Winchester\, East Baltimore Midway\, Cherry Hill\, Highlandtown\, Ednor Gardens\, and at the Lillie May Carroll Jackson Charter School on Sinclair Lane. \n\nBe the first to view the design\, meet the artist\, and hear questions and feedback from attendees. The Pikesville Community Mural project is a paid residency for an artist to create an original outdoor mural on a prominent sidewall of Zips Cleaners\, at 1220 Reisterstown Road in the heart of “downtown” Pikesville. It will be located across the street from the Pikesville branch of the Baltimore County Public Library\, the Pikesville Senior Center and the headquarters of the Maryland State Police (formerly the site of the Old United States Arsenal and the Maryland Line Confederate Soldiers’ Home).\nOrganizers hope the mural will be completed by May 30\, 2024. \nThe mural meeting will be held at the Pikesville Library\, 1301 Reisterstown Road. \nFor information\, visit 1000friendsofpikesville.org. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Gallery 1448 for the opening reception of “Convergent”\, featuring sculptural works by mother & daughter duo Michelle and Emily Lamb. \nMichelle Lamb\, an award-winning multidisciplinary artist\, utilizes found objects or deconstructs obsolete machinery for her sculptures. Her upcycling involves heavy machining and manipulation which she assembles into curious and oftentimes eerie narratives. \nEmily Lamb merges handblown glass with ceramic into a seamless whole that defies the natures of each normally incompatible material. With glass representing psychological phenomenon and clay the physical matter\, her work is ethereal\, refined and ultimately beautiful. \nThe show runs from April 6 – 28\, 2024. Herbert Dimmock leads the Bach in Baltimore Choir and Orchestra and two choirs from our Student Exchange Program joined by soprano\, alto\, tenor\, and bass soloists in one of the greatest choral works ever composed: Handel Israel in Egypt. \nWith over 100 musicians on stage\, experience the epic story of the Israelites exodus from Egypt. The sounds of buzzing flies and leaping frogs\, hailstones and lighting are all brilliantly evoked by the double choirs and orchestra dramatizing the plight of the Israelites from captivity in Egypt\, through the plagues\, pestilence\, floods\, and across the parted Red Sea to salvation. \nMore than most of Handel’s oratorios\, Israel in Egypt focuses on the choir\, not the vocal soloists. The choir becomes the protagonist in the action of the story\, representing entire nations of peoples. Handel was at the height of his fame when he composed Israel in Egypt in 1737–38\, and he infused the work with an array of ingenious devices\, colors\, and textures to create wonder\, drama\, and meaningful resonance. \nAs noted in John Elliot Gardner’s program notes: “1859 Henry Chorlye [asserted that] Israel in Egypt [is] ‘something apart from\, alone\, and above all other works existing in descriptive choral music.’ Every known technique in the choral repertoire is employed: choral recitative\, arioso\, fugue and double fugue\, homophonic declamation\, coloratura and the cut and thrust of two choirs in antiphony\, This is combined with a rich orchestral accompaniment\, which includes trombones in 13 choruses and trumpets in six\, scarcely to be matched in the whole Baroque era. It is a work apart: unique in its epic conception and in the dazzling variety of its choral and orchestral writing.” \nYou won’t want to miss this powerful and thrilling choral wonder that illuminates the strength of faith\, solidarity\, and moral conviction.
