SUMMARY:The Architecture of Modern American Synagogues\, the 1950s-1960s
DESCRIPTION:Get Ready to Explore the Essence of Modern American Synagogues with BZD and Anat Geva\, Ph.D. On Tuesday\, November 7th at 11 AM (ET). We are thrilled to unveil an exciting addition to our virtual event lineup – The Architecture of Modern American Synagogues\, the 1950s–1960s. Prepare to embark on a captivating journey that will expand your horizons and deepen your understanding of the unique architectural gems that are American synagogues. \nThis virtual tour offers a fresh perspective on an essential moment in American Jewish society and culture as mirrored in their houses of worship. It delves into the architectural design of synagogues\, decoding how it reflects the intersection of post-WWII Jewish religious and cultural identity\, suburban migration\, and the principles of modern design and building technology. \nImagine exploring synagogues like **Park Synagogue\, Cleveland (1953)**\, designed by the legendary Eric Mendelsohn\, or the iconic **Beth Sholom Synagogue\, Elkins Park\, Pennsylvania (1956)**\, envisioned by none other than Frank Lloyd Wright. You’ll also discover the wonders of **North Shore Congregation Israel Synagogue\, Glencoe\, Illinois (1964)**\, a masterpiece by Minoru Yamasaki\, and many more. \nThese synagogues aren’t just architectural marvels but windows into the evolving concepts of faith\, technology\, and design during this period. They represent a departure from tradition\, an embrace of modernism\, and innovations in building technology. In addition\, they incorporated Jewish art in new and innovative ways.
