SUMMARY:The Architecture of Modern American Synagogues\, the 1950s-1960s
DESCRIPTION:Get Ready to Explore the Essence of Modern American Synagogues with BZD and Anat Geva\, Ph.D. On Tuesday\, November 7th at 11 AM (ET). We are thrilled to unveil an exciting addition to our virtual event lineup – The Architecture of Modern American Synagogues\, the 1950s–1960s. Prepare to embark on a captivating journey that will expand your horizons and deepen your understanding of the unique architectural gems that are American synagogues. \nThis virtual tour offers a fresh perspective on an essential moment in American Jewish society and culture as mirrored in their houses of worship. It delves into the architectural design of synagogues\, decoding how it reflects the intersection of post-WWII Jewish religious and cultural identity\, suburban migration\, and the principles of modern design and building technology. \nImagine exploring synagogues like **Park Synagogue\, Cleveland (1953)**\, designed by the legendary Eric Mendelsohn\, or the iconic **Beth Sholom Synagogue\, Elkins Park\, Pennsylvania (1956)**\, envisioned by none other than Frank Lloyd Wright. You’ll also discover the wonders of **North Shore Congregation Israel Synagogue\, Glencoe\, Illinois (1964)**\, a masterpiece by Minoru Yamasaki\, and many more. \nThese synagogues aren’t just architectural marvels but windows into the evolving concepts of faith\, technology\, and design during this period. They represent a departure from tradition\, an embrace of modernism\, and innovations in building technology. In addition\, they incorporated Jewish art in new and innovative ways.

SUMMARY:Child Study Association of Md. to Hold Reunion & Bench Rededication
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, Nov. 5\, the Child Study Association of Maryland will hold a reunion and bench rededication program at 10 a.m. at The Maryland Zoo\, at 1 Safari Place at Druid Hill Park. The gathering will take place at the zoo’s entrance and proceed to the dedication site. An optional dessert reception will follow. Former CSAM leaders and members will reminisce and celebrate the nonprofit’s impact on the lives of children and families in Maryland. \nFor eight decades\, thousands of Maryland mothers received strong support and parenting skills from lectures delivered by professionals and the friendships offered by other mothers involved in the CSAM. These same mothers impacted legislation\, schools and media\, and raised funds for numerous causes. Though the organization was non-denominational\, a large portion of the membership was Jewish. Some prominent local members were Mrs. Roger Hartz\, Mrs. M. Shakman-Katz\, Mrs. Walter Kohn\, Mrs. Eleanor Levy\, Mrs. James Rouse and Mrs. Jane Hutzler Wolf. The CSAM culminated its existence in 2005. \nFor information about the Nov. 5 event\, contact former CSAM presiddent Amy Bober-Schenerman at\nbober.schenerman@icloud.com or 443-562-5645. SUMMARY:Internalized Capitalism and Mental Health: Loving the Unlovable
DESCRIPTION:Scientific studies have long illustrated the impact of capitalism on rates of mental illness. Living in late-stage capitalism\, our value is often equated with what we are able to produce. Achievement and capability are prized over connection and relationship\, stories which are internalized during childhood\, resulting in loud “inner critics\,” low self-esteem\, and low self-worth. \nIn this experiential workshop\, participants will discuss how these factors impact mental wellness of clinicians and clients; explore how fostering forgiveness and radical self-acceptance can mitigate the negative mental health impacts; and participate in hands-on exercises to improve professional skills and competencies in compassion practice for clients and professionals. \nOffers 1.0 Category I CEUs”
