SUMMARY:A Tashlich Festival: An Afternoon of Refresh\, Renewal\, and Release
DESCRIPTION:Join Third Space at Shaarei Tfiloh for an afternoon of activities\, tasty seasonal treats (did someone say apples and honey?)\, music\, meaning\, and an opportunity to cast into the harbor what no longer serves you. A fun and communal way to usher in the High Holiday season\, you’ll have everything you need (including free and designated parking!) to participate—at whatever level feels right to you. \nTashlich\, meaning to cast away\, is a ritual associated with the High Holiday season that invites us to reflect on what no longer serves us and cast it away. In preparation for a new Jewish calendar year\, this practice allows us to start the year with a little less weighing on our spirit. It may sound heavy\, but if done right\, Tashlich can be both refreshing and uplifting. \nThere will be a brief program with story and song from 2:30 – 3:00 pm led by Rabbis Andy Gordon and Jessy Dressin. Great for people of all ages. \nFeaturing tasty treats from the Charmery & Hon’s Honey and pop-ups from Inheritance Theater Project and the Macks Jewish Connection Network \nThe Tashlich Festival is free to attend\, but registration is strongly encouraged. (And they can only let you know where and how to get free parking if you’re registered!)

SUMMARY:'October 8' Documentary to be Screened at Chizuk Amuno
DESCRIPTION:Join Pikesville’s Chizuk Amuno Congregation and the Baltimore Jewish Council for a special screening of the documentary “October 8\,”  followed by a conversation with Rabbi Joshua Gruenberg of Chizuk Amuno and BJC executive director Howard Libit. \nThe film will be presented at Chizuk Amuno\, at 8100 Stevenson Road. \nThe event is free\, but registration is required. \n“October 8” offers a powerful examination of the surge in antisemitism that erupted on college campuses\, across social media\, and in public spaces throughout the U.S. following the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel. \nThrough in-depth investigation\, the film reveals how Hamas spent decades building sophisticated networks within the U.S. to influence institutions\, and exposes the wave of online antisemitism\, propaganda and disinformation fueled by Iran\, China and Russia — all with the aim of sowing division within American society. \nFor information\, visit chizukamuno.org/event/screening-of-october-8-followed-by-an-intimate-conversation-with-rabbi-gruenberg-and-howard-libit.html

SUMMARY:Rheda Becker to Present Martyrology Service at Beth Am for 40th Year
DESCRIPTION:This High Holiday season\, Reservoir Hill’s Beth Am Synagogue will mark the 40th consecutive year that Rheda Becker has presented the congregation’s Martyrology service on Yom Kippur. This year’s observance will focus on the story of Leo Frank\, a young Jewish businessman who was wrongly accused of murder and lynched in 1913 in Atlanta. His trial\, heavily influenced by an antisemitic press\, remains one of the most notorious miscarriages of justice in American history. \nBuilt in 1922\, Reservoir Hill’s Beth Am Synagogue is the former home of Chizuk Amuno Congregation. (File photo)\nImmediately following the Martyrology service\, Tom Hall\, host of WYPR’s “Midday\,” will conduct a live interview with Becker and engage the congregation in a reflective discussion. \nBecker is a former faculty member of the Peabody Conservatory (now the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University) and a veteran musical narrator. She served as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s narrator for more than four decades. Becker has conducted the Martyrology service every Yom Kippur afternoon at the synagogue\, at 2501 Eutaw Place\, for the past four decades. \nFor information\, contact Courtney Luby at 410-523-2446\, ext. 1111 or Courtney@bethambaltimore.org.

SUMMARY:Yom Kippur Afternoon Learning and Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:Spend the last hours of Yom Kippur at Third Space. Join Rabbi Jessy as we explore the idea of Hopefulness in a Time of Existential Angst. What is our role in helping to mend a broken world? What does the day of atonement have to do with our hopes for a better world? What role do personal responsibility and accountability play in helping to build the world we wish to see? \nThrough a combination of voices from Jewish tradition\, maybe a song lyric or two\, and the voices in the room\, we will fill up on ideas and engage with important questions on this Day of Atonement. All are welcome—no prior knowledge necessary to participate. A teen program offering will be available with Rabbi Dena Shaffer. \nWhether it is your custom to fast or not\, after learning\, join us for bagels and shmear (and maybe some kugel) as the ten days of awe come to an end. While we eat\, we’ll share some intentions for the year ahead and honor this special and sacred time with new and old friends. You are welcome to come for both learning and breakfast or just one depending on where you plan to spend your time this Yom Kippur.

SUMMARY:Pop Culture Torah: A Three-Part Learning Series with Rabbi Jessy Dressin
DESCRIPTION:What is this thing called ‘text study’ and why do some Jews think it is so important (or awesome)? SUMMARY:Sukkot Soiree
DESCRIPTION:Help fill Third Space’s sukkah (literally “booth”) with food\, music\, and celebration! Shake the lulav and etrog\, enjoy a harvest-themed vegetarian dinner\, and boogie to live music. \nIn ancient times\, during Sukkot\, known as zman simchateinu (our season of joy)\, the whole community gathered to finish harvesting the season’s produce to prepare for the coming winter. A time of transition\, trepidation\, and celebration\, those with the most and those with the least were indistinguishable\, because all were obligated to celebrate with joy. So too shall we gather in our sukkah in communal joy and celebration. \n*Welcome in Shabbat with Happy (Hour) Shabbat from 5 – 6 pm.

SUMMARY:HAIR at Vagabond Players
DESCRIPTION:The historic Vagabond Players—the nation’s oldest continuously operating little theater—kicks off its milestone 110th Season with HAIR\, the groundbreaking “American Tribal Love-Rock Musical” with book and lyrics by Gerome Ragnia and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot. This revolutionary work\, which stormed Broadway in 1968 and forever transformed American musical theater\, channels the passion\, rebellion\, and hope of a generation on the brink of change. \nDirected by TJ Lukacsina in his Vagabond Players debut\, with music direction by Stephen Deininger and choreography by Rikki Howie Lacewell\, this bold new production reimagines HAIR for a modern audience while honoring its free-spirited roots. More than 50 years later\, it still vibrates with an energy and drive that contributed to it being a phenomenon and its messages of peace\, equality\, and love still ring out as powerfully as ever. \nHAIR runs October 17 – November 23\, 2025\, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. And check out a special “Thursdays on Broadway” performance Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. when all tickets are just $18. \nFor tickets\, cast and show info visit vagabondplayers.org. SUMMARY:Tour of Caulkers' Houses in Fells Point
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Ship Caulkers’ Houses to discover the history of the free and enslaved community of Black ship caulkers who lived and worked in Fells Point during the mid-19th century. The Caulkers’ House are located at 612 and 614 S. Wolfe Street in Fells Point \nBetween 1842 and 1854\, the buildings became homes to African American ship caulkers Richard Jones\, Henry Scott and John Whittington. The shipbuilding industry in Fells Point depended on free and enslaved black labor. Caulking\, the process by which a ship is waterproofed and sealed\, was dominated by Black workers\, including Frederick Douglass who worked as a caulker in Baltimore in the 1830s. For a time\, the Black Caulker Association held a near monopoly over Baltimore’s caulking industry. \nThe houses on Wolfe Street were named the Caulker Houses in honor of the caulkers who lived there. The houses are also known as the “Two Sisters Houses” after sisters Mary Leeke Rowe Dashiell and Eleanor Marine Dashiell\, descendants of the Leeke\, Marine and Dashiell families. They owned the houses prior to the acquisition by the Society for the Preservation of Federal Hill and Fell’s Point.
