Mercy to Hold ‘Heat It To Beat It’ Event

Mercy Medical Center’s “Heat It To Beat It” will be held at West Covington Park, at 101 West Dickman Street in Baltimore, located near the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River. The annual event is a patient-led walk and celebration that raises funds and awareness for research on peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) surgery.
Registration opens at 8:45 a.m., followed by program and walk 9:30 a.m.
Since its inception in 2009, “Heat It To Beat It” has raised more than $3 million for this worthy cause.
HIPEC is a surgery that uses heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy to treat abdominal cancers. For many patients, this surgery is their only chance for long-term survival. However, there is a lack of awareness about the disease, and patients are often misdiagnosed.
