Webcasts Offer Insights from Hopkins Experts about COVID-19

If you are a woman living in the Baltimore metropolitan area, chances are that you’ve heard of “A Woman’s Journey,” the women’s health conference presented by Johns Hopkins Medicine for the past quarter of a century.

The annual conference — founded by local residents and cancer survivors Harriet Legum and Mollye Block, and chaired by Kelly Geer Ripken — will take place this year on Oct. 31.

But in the meantime, women and their families can benefit from “A Woman’s Journey — Facts That Matter,” a four-part series of free webcasts addressing a variety of topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Led by Hopkins medical professionals, the hour-long discussions will include opportunities for viewers to ask questions.

“‘A Woman’s Journey’ webcasts bring Johns Hopkins physicians into your living room to provide accurate and updated information about COVID-19,” said Dr. Karen Lee Swartz, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Hopkins and chair of the “A Woman’s Journey” faculty advisory committee.

Starting tonight, the webcasts will take place on four consecutive Tuesdays from 7-8 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

• Tues., Apr. 14, “A Child’s Perspective” with Dr. Rachel Lyn Johnson Thornton, an associate professor of pediatrics at Hopkins, and Dr. Hal Benjamin Kronsberg, an instructor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Hopkins.

• Tues., Apr. 21, “A COVID-19 Update” with Dr. Lisa Lockerd Maragakis, an eepidemiologist and senior director of infection prevention at Hopkins.

• Tues., Apr. 28, “Mindfulness and Meditation” with Dr. Neda F. Gould, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Hopkins.

• Tues., May 5, “Health Disparities” with Dr. Sherita Hill Golden, internist and vice president and chief diversity officer at Hopkins.

“We hope these programs will answer your questions in an effort to keep you informed and ease some of the stress resulting from the pandemic and social isolation,” said Dr. Swartz.
