To help support Israel and its critical needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jewish National Fund plans to hold the largest fund-raising event in its 119-year-history.
Besides reaching out to a record-breaking 60,000 supporters across the United States, the “Spectacular Sunday” virtual event on Sunday, June 14, will feature entertainment and a $1 million match challenge to enable donors to double the value of their gifts.
Among the event’s entertainers will be singers David Broza, Rick Recht and Peter Himmelman, comedians Benji Lovitt and Elon Gold, and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet.
“I’m excited to take the lead in bringing the greater Baltimore Jewish community closer to the land and people of Israel,” said JNF Maryland Board President Nanci Seff. “Now more than ever, it’s critical for us to show our support for our brothers and sisters in Israel, whether it’s economically or in solidarity, and ‘Spectacular Sunday’ is an opportunity for us to stand as one and help our homeland economically rebound in the post-COVID-19 era.”
Jewish National Fund-USA is the leading philanthropic organization that supports critical environmental and nation-building activities in Israel’s north and south. The organization is developing new communities in the Galilee and Negev, while creating infrastructure for ecology, special needs and heritage preservation.
“Can you imagine 119 years ago when Theodor Herzl, a man in his early 40s, asked for the first gift for Jewish National Fund to repurchase the land of Israel, for the Jewish people?” said Jewish National Fund-USA CEO Russell F. Robinson: “Surely, he never could have imagined that in the year 2020, from Los Angeles to New York, and across the ocean to Israel, thousands of people would be standing up and saying, ‘Count on me!'”
“Spectacular Sunday” will be held from noon to 4 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). Viewers can tune in and participate live via YouTube or Facebook.
