CHAI recently held its annual “Good Neighbor Day” clean-up of the Western Run stream, which is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The project was done in conjunction with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay’s Project Clean Stream.
Project Clean Stream is the largest stream cleanup event in the Chesapeake Bay region. CHAI, or Comprehensive Housing Assistance Inc., is an agency of The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore.
Approximately 40 neighbors from the Cross Country, Glen, Fallstaff, Mount Washington and Cheswolde areas — as well as students and parents from the KIPP Academy and Cross Country Elementary Middle School — came out to help beautify the area around the steam. The volunteers also cleaned up refuse and debris along Cross Country Boulevard and Western Run Drive.
More than 200 pounds of trash was collected during the three-hour “Good Neighbor Day,” according to Sherrell Savage, director of community organizing for CHAI.
“We really had a lot of fun,” said Savage. “People were just excited to participate. It was a fun day of community service and camaraderie among neighbors.”
