Local Author to Speak about his Mother’s Heroic Efforts During Holocaust

For “International Holocaust Remembrance Day,” local author Eli Schaap will speak about his mother’s life during World War II on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at noon at the Jewish Library of Baltimore, 5700 Park Heights Avenue.

Schaap will talk about his new book, “The Jewish Woman Who Fought the Nazis: Bep Schaap-Bedak’s Life During the Holocaust in Holland” (Amsterdam Publishers). Bep Schaap-Bedak was  instrumental in helping more than 100 Jews go into hiding during the Nazi occupation of Holland.

Eli Schaap — who is senior vice president at  The Steinhardt Foundation For Jewish Life — spent the past five years researching the book.
