Beth Am to Host Album Launch Concert on Jan. 21

December 1, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

On Sunday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m., Reservoir Hill’s Beth Am Synagogue will host the launch concert of the album, “Gam Ki Elech: Turning Our Sorrows Into Song,” an album of original melodies given to Baltimore residents Rabbi Ilan Glazer and Sherri Vishner Glazer by their son Shemaryah Zichri, of blessed memory.

Beth Am is located at 2501 Eutaw Place. (There will be an optional Ma’ariv service at 7 that evening.)

For the past three years, Rabbi Ilan Glazer has been the house drummer for Uncle Ira’s Hebrew Washboard Ensemble at Beth Am. Now, he and his wife, along with other Washboard Ensemble members and musical friends, will launch the album at Beth Am.

The 13 melodies on “Gam Ki Elech” are all from our liturgy and psalms, melodies that have brought hope and inspiration to the Glazers and others. The album launch concert in Beth Am’s sanctuary will mark Shemaryah’s second yahrzeit with an evening of music, memory, healing and hope.

The Gam Ki Elech Band (Provided)

Performing on the album are Charley Beller (mandolin and vocals), Rabbi Daniel Cotzin Burg (vocals), Rabbi David Curiel (vocals), Chaim Fruchter (guitar and vocals), Rabbi Ilan Glazer (percussion and lead vocals), Yona Gorelick (vocals), Erin Kelly (vocals and concertina), Elliot Kurtz (clarinet and vocals), Joe Magar (upright bass), Zach Mayer (saxophone and vocals), Jim North (hammer dulcimer and vocals), Sherri Vishner Glazer (vocals) and Rabbi Miriam-Simma Walfish (vocals).
