Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer to Perform at Music on the Square
Baltimore’s Music on the Square concert series will present “From China to Appalachia: Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer with Chao Tian.”
Fink and Marxer are a veteran Maryland-based, Grammy Award-winning duo. They perform folk, bluegrass and children’s music, and have appeared on stages playing with Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton, Theodore Bikel, Patsy Montana and other music luminaries.
Chao Tian is a renowned Chinese dulcimer (yangquin) instrumentalist and advocate of Chinese traditional music.
In their show, Fink & Marxer and Tian explore the common ground between Appalachian traditions and Chinese classical music, weaving in songs and sounds from around the world on banjos, ukulele, guitar, mandolin, dumbek and yangqin. The result is a concert that is both intimate and expansive, with melodies from around the world reimagined.
The concert will be held at the Church on the Square, 1025 S. Potomac Street in Baltimore’s Canton neighborhood.
