‘Liberty Road’ Author to Speak at Randallstown Library
Gregory C. Smithsimon, author of “Liberty Road: Black Middle-Class Suburbs and the Battle Between Civil Rights and Neoliberalism” (New York University Press), will speak at the Randallstown branch of the Baltimore County Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m. The Randallstown branch is located at 8604 Liberty Rd.
“Liberty Road” focuses on the history of Randallstown’s Liberty Road corridor and explores race-based discrimination, blockbusting and the impact of neighborhood integration. Smithsimon, a sociology professor at Brooklyn College, and local business owner Carla Nelson Chambers will talk about the development and growth of the Black middle-class suburbs.
