Mussar Expert to Serve as Beth Israel’s Scholar in Residence

Dr. Alan Morinis, founder of The Mussar Institute in Boynton Beach, Florida, will join Owings Mills’ Beth Israel Congregation as its “Scholar in Residence” during the weekend of Apr. 17-18.
The public is invited to Beth Israel, located at 3706 Crondall Lane, for an inspiring weekend with Dr. Morinis, author of “The Shabbat Effect: Jewish Wisdom for Growth and Transformation.”
The event begins Friday at 6 p.m. with a Kabbalat Shabbat service, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and an introductory talk, “What is Mussar and Why Should I Care?”
During Shabbat morning services, Dr. Morinis will present the D’var Torah, “Torah Through a Mussar Lens,” followed at approximately 12:45 p.m. with a Kiddush conversation, “Religion and Spirituality: The Shabbat Connection.”
That evening, after a community Havdalah service at 8:30 p.m., Dr. Morinis will lead a discussion, “Mussar as a Toolkit for Living in Today’s World.”
There is a fee to cover the cost of Friday’s dinner, and pre-registration is required. Onsite parking is plentiful, free and well lit.
