‘Sabbath Queen’ to be Screened at Charles Theatre

March 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$18 – $36

Third Space at Shaarei Tfiloh, in partnership with Chizuk Amuno Congregation and School & Camps, will host a special one-night screening of “Sabbath Queen,” an award-winning documentary chronicling Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie’s personal and spiritual journey in becoming the first openly queer rabbi in 39 generations.

The Israeli-born Rabbi Amichai is co-founding spiritual leader of the Lab/Shul congregation and community in New York City and creator of the ritual theater company Storahtelling, Inc. He received his rabbinical ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 2016.

Filmed over 21 years, “Sabbath Queen” follows Rabbi Amichai’s journey as the dynastic heir of 38 generations of Orthodox rabbis. He is torn between rejecting and embracing his destiny and becomes a drag-queen rebel, a queer bio-dad and founder of Lab/Shul, an everybody-friendly, God-optional, artist-driven, pop-up experimental congregation.

Sandi Simcha DuBowski is the director/producer of “Sabbath Queen.” He was the director/producer of the 2001 documentary, “Trembling Before G-d.”

The “Sabbath Queen” screening and talkback will be presented at the Charles Theatre, 1711 N. Charles Street. For information, visit thirdspacest.org/event/sabbath-queen/,
