Dear Readers,
First, let me thank all of you and our advertisers for your tremendous support and kind feedback. Thousands and thousands of copies of the last print edition of Jmore jumped out of our racks and boxes, were handed out, and requested by mail. Thousands of other readers availed themselves of Jmore’s online content (jmoreliving.com), received the weekly e-newsletter, or found us on social media. More than 30,000 readers were touched by Jmore in some manner. The advertisers have told us tremendous stories of gaining new customers through Jmore.
This is a remarkable start.
The next step for Jmore is to begin reaching out to the young people in our community. We need to connect with them in ways they care about and in ways that subtly connect them to older generations. For our middle and high school students, we plan to eventually start the Jmore Journalism Program. Local students will be invited to be appointed the official beat reporters for their schools, teams and organizations. The articles they submit will be professionally edited and published online and in the print edition.
They will receive bylines, be able to build a portfolio, and expand their journalism skills. Each summer, we plan to invite our young journalists to participate in a writing seminar, and they will get to interact with professional journalists and college professors. There will be certificates and awards that they can list on their college applications.
College students are encouraged to become Jmore interns. The interns will become team members and experience the pressures and joys of publishing a quality magazine on a tight schedule. Internship areas include writing, marketing, production, sales, etc. Future employers will love the degree of responsibility they will enjoy.
In addition to young folks, Jmore plans to reach out to our communal organizations. We will invite article submissions, events announcements, and meeting schedules. We want to be the PR vehicle for the community. We want to spread the good word on the great things your organizations undertake.
Last but not least, family announcements are of great interest to our readers. We have linked our magazine and website to our good friends at Sol Levinson’s & Bros. Death is never easy, but we will offer stories about the lives of community members and information on funerals and shiva information.
As we grow, Jmore also plans to be a vehicle for your family announcements — births, bar and bat mitzvahs, anniversaries, weddings, etc. We invite synagogues to submit master events lists.
If any of these opportunities interest you or your children, please drop me an email at publisher@jmoreliving.com .
Have a wonderful holiday season and pray that our new president-elect is blessed with wisdom and takes the responsibility of representing all Americans to heart. Pray that he understands the danger of racism, sexism and religious bigotry.
Let us pray that he puts aside the rhetoric of the campaign and understands the awesome power for both good and evil that he now possesses.
Whether or not you voted for him, his success is our success. Let us hope.
Sincerely,
Scott Rifkin, MD, Publisher
