Dear Readers,

A few topics this month:

Jmore is a year old!!! Thanks so much for your support. We are now circulating 16,000 copies of the magazine every month and reaching at least 30,000 Jewish residents of the Baltimore metropolitan area and Howard County. Every day, I hear from readers with great reviews of our content.

You may also notice that our advertising content is growing and the magazine is getting thicker. Email newsletters, Facebook posts and website content are reaching thousands of more folks with a skew toward younger consumers. There is simply no better way to reach the educated and affluent Jewish consumer than the Jmore multi-media platform.

Jmore will continue to grow with your help. We invite your story ideas and opinion letters. I have very strong political opinions and I enjoy having this forum. However, I invite opposing opinions. We would love to publish folks who disagree with us.

This month, our cover story is on Baltimore’s Jewish media stars. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this well-written piece.

Talk about a media star, who was better known locally than Alan Elkin? Alan’s commercials for his company, Advanced Business Systems, were fun and funny. He became a true local celebrity. He was also a very successful businessman.

One day early in my medical career, Alan personally came to my office to address a product issue and in doing so taught me a major life lesson. He showed me how to put the customer first and in a subtle way taught me a bit about of humility. Alan died recently and he will be truly missed.

Also, don’t miss the story on the Jemicy School. Lennie Attman and his family have helped this great community resource thrive for many years. The family connection between the Attmans and Jemicy is touching.

Let’s all pray and donate to the communities in the south that have been ravaged by extreme storms. Two huge storms in one season. They need our help.

One last thought. How long until the conservative movement stops accepting huge donations from large companies to deny global warming and, therefore, suppress pollution controls on those companies? I’m amazed by the partnership of fundamentalists and big business to preach a self-serving anti-science movement.

The concept of evolution is even still under attack. Our children and grandchildren will inherit a world with a more unstable climate. They will see an increase in childhood mortality due to the anti-science advocates against vaccinations. The scientists of this country are believers in truth and are rarely skewed by political or religious beliefs. We need to trust the facts of science to format answers to problems in a moral framework of our own religious beliefs.

Be safe,
