Cockeysville’s Broadmead senior living community recently received a national honor for its memory care program.
The National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, based in Sparta, New Jersey, awarded its first-ever Certified Memory Care Neighborhood Commendation to Broadmead. The commendation recognizes Broadmead for its commitment to person-centered memory care, its Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Program and its educational leadership.

Founded in 1979, Broadmead (broadmead.org) maintains a 94-acre campus at 13801 York Rd., offering such living options as garden homes, apartments, Taylor Assisted Living, Darlington Assisted Living for Memory Care, the Hallowell Comprehensive Rehab and Care Center, and the Center of Excellence in Dementia Care and Health and Wellness.
Stacey Young, director of the Center of Excellence Dementia Care, and Ann Patterson, vice president of health services at Broadmead, completed training to become certified dementia care managers. Young and Patterson participated in a survey process involving all aspects of care, policy, programming and procedures around memory care services at Broadmead to receive the commendation.
“It is a true honor to be recognized by NCCDP as the first to receive the Memory Care Neighborhood Commendation in the country,” said Young. “Broadmead’s vision is to be recognized as a leader in the care of persons living with dementia and in the training and support of their caregivers. This award honors the hard work, and dedication of the Broadmead team to create a model of care that supports dignity, compassion, respect, and the strength of the person living with dementia and their care partners.”
