Dr. Jonathan Rose
Podiatrist
Greenspring Podiatry
Dr. Jonathan Rose knows what it’s like to see patients in a large, busy, impersonal setting. He joined Greenspring Podiatry in July because he wanted to provide a friendlier, more intimate and individualized experience for children and adults.
“I think the overall patient experience, how we cater to each patient individually, is what makes Greenspring Podiatry special,” says Dr. Rose. “It’s not a factory we run here. You’re not just a number. You’re treated like a family member.”
Dr. Rose, who earned his doctoral degree and graduated first in his class, from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in 1998 and completed his residency program at University of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Medical Center in 2002, has the breadth of experience necessary to treat patients with just about any type of foot or ankle problem.
He says patients don’t always recognize the range of medical services that podiatrists provide.
“In its roots, podiatry was limited to cutting toenails and calluses. But the profession has come a long way,” says Dr. Rose.
“We attend four years of podiatric medical school and there’s a minimum of three years of podiatric residency in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. In fact, some of the best in the field for foot and ankle surgery aren’t orthopedists, they’re podiatrists,” he adds.
At Greenspring Podiatry, Dr. Rose provides a variety of treatments, from major reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, diabetic wound care, and sports injuries to bunions, cutting toenails and everything in between.
Dr. Rose also notes that podiatrists are in a unique position to recognize symptoms of diseases originating in other systems of the body that may show up during foot examinations.
“Sometimes we pick up on vascular, neurologic and dermatologic diseases. So, podiatry can be the gatekeeper to a lot of different specialties,” he says.
“When patients come in, the primary objective is to get them better, and we will individualize the treatment. It’s not a cookie cutter way of treating people. We know everybody’s different, even if they have the same problem. Our focus is really on the patient.”
