Community Teen Vigil for Israel to be held Tonight at Owings Mills JCC

Tonight, Oct. 12, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore will hold a community-wide vigil for local teens to demonstrate their love for and solidarity with Israel at this critical time.

The gathering — which will be held from 8-9 p.m. in the fields to the right of the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC, at 3506 Gwynnbrook Avenue — will feature songs, prayers, stories and healing words of comfort.

The event will be presented by the local groups 4Front, the Jewish Student Union and NCSY in partnership with the JCC and The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, local synagogues, BBYO, StandWithUs, CTeen (the Chabad Teen Network) and JCC Maccabi.

Security will be provided at the gathering.

In addition, in the wake of the ongoing crisis, “Israel tables” were set up this week at the JCCs in Owings Mills and at 5700 Park Heights Avenue. The tables feature Israeli flags, “Baltimore Stands With Israel” bracelets, blue-and-white ribbons (for tying around trees and mailboxes) and prayer cards featuring “Hatikvah,” Israel’s national anthem.

The JCC plans to continually restock the tables, which will be displayed indefinitely.

“It’s a very painful time for the Jewish community and the worldwide community about what’s happening [with] the tragedy and war in Israel,” Barak Hermann, the JCC’s chief executive officer, told WBAL-TV on Tuesday night, Oct. 10. “[The JCC is] planning and considering programs for teenagers, providing resources to our staff on how to talk to children about what’s happening. … We want our Israeli brothers, sisters, family and friends to feel our solidarity and support.”
