I am truly pleased to offer this edition of Jmore, which honors Marc Terrill.

Marc has led The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore for more than 20 years. It has been my great privilege to work with Marc. He is an honest, committed, and decent man. Marc is a friend, and I am truly pleased that this edition is dedicated to him.

Running The Associated is not an easy job. Crises occur and must be carefully responded to. Donors must be courted. The operations must be managed day to day.

Marc has done all of these jobs with class, professionalism, and excellence.

The Associated depends on many donors to fund its varied programs. There are differing political and religious positions within the community. The head of The Associated must navigate the egos of the many donors while making them confident that their opinions are heard.

Marc has kept the organization focused on its mission — support the community, support Jews, and support Israel. He has avoided divisiveness and built the strongest and most respected Jewish communal organization in the United States.

Marc has great humility. When complimented, he defers to the many volunteers and leaders within The Associated. Those who know him understand that he has shaped and steered the organization while letting others shine.

We have been blessed to have Marc lead our community and it is a shame that he is retiring. The good news is that Marc is staying in Baltimore and will remain a leader, a resource, and a friend.

We wish him well and hope that he enjoys the many tributes that our community so deservedly will give to him.

He has done his job so very well.
