Son Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of his Mother in Pikesville

A 21-year-old man was charged with fatally stabbing his mother, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.

Xander Fried, 21, allegedly stabbed Melanie Lee Fried, 57, on New Year’s Eve in her home on the 100 block of Brightside Avenue in Pikesville’s Ralston community.

The stabbing was reported at approximately 1:21 p.m. after police were notified of a domestic dispute at the house.

Police reportedly found Melanie Fried, a mother of two and 1985 graduate of Pikesville High School, hunched over a chair, bleeding from the chest and hands. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her son is charged with first-degree murder and being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Detectives recovered a knife from the scene.
