Dr. Scott Rifkin: Jmore’s New Mission

Dear Readers,

I am pleased to inform our loyal readers that the transition of Jmore to non-profit is going very well. The transition will be completed by the end of spring. The new entity now has IRS-approval and the initial Board of Directors is being formed.

The name of the new organization is the Jewish Media and Cultural Education Corporation. The name of the magazine and online media site will still be Jmore.

Under Marc Terril’s leadership, we have formed a Board of prominent members of the community. These board members represent all aspects of the Baltimore Jewish community.

All that said, we will now endeavor to focus on the who, how, and why of media and communications practices. In short, our mission of developing our local talent and emerging leaders in what it means to be responsible content providers and reliable fact-based sources will be at the core of the mission.

In the near future, the new organization will roll out student internships in print, electronic, and photojournalism. There will be writing contests and debate training. We will form strategic partnerships with schools, shuls, and local organizations.

We will also ask for your support. Program volunteers will be needed. If you worked for a newspaper or a radio station and have now retired, we need you. Journalism teachers are desired as well.

We have already lined up our first large financial donor but many more will be needed. Marc and I are eager to discuss these needs in person with those of you having an interest in producing a generation of young adults that see the need for a successful and safe Israel and who can espouse those beliefs.

Feel free to reach out with any thoughts,

Thanks,
