Dr. Stanley Leonard Becker, a dentist who practiced in the Baltimore area for many decades, passed away at Sinai Hospital on Monday, Feb. 16, following complications from a fall.

The Pikesville resident was 89.

A Baltimore native, Becker grew up in an apartment above the downtown grocery store owned and operated by his parents, Harry and Irene Becker. Throughout his childhood and teens, he worked at Becker’s Grocery.

“From those humble beginnings, he built a life rooted in dedication, curiosity, and connection to his community and family,” posted family members on the website of Sol Levinson & Bros. “Stanley will be remembered for his warmth, quiet wisdom, steady kindness, and loyalty. He lived a life defined by service, connection, and love, leaving a lasting imprint on his family, his patients, and his beloved Baltimore community.”

Becker was a 1955 graduate of Baltimore City College. After initially studying pharmacy and teaching pharmaceutical students, he pursued his dental degree. Becker’s career in dentistry began while serving as an officer in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation in southeastern Arizona.

Eventually, Becker returned to the Baltimore area and settled in Pikesville, establishing a longtime practice as a family dentist.

“He developed deep and lasting relationships with his patients, many of whom remained with him throughout their lives,” his family wrote. “Stanley took great pride in his work and in the trust his patients placed in him.”

In his spare time, Becker enjoyed dancing, music, collecting coins and stamps, and local sports teams.

He is survived by his children, Bonnie Becker, Randi (David) Sadugor, Marty (Lily) Swanbrow Becker and Jason (Michele) Becker; his grandchildren Hope and JoAnna Ramsey, Sami (Cody) Monarch, Zoe Sadugor, Rachel Becker, and Iris and Arthur Swanbrow Becker; his great-grandchild, Tucker; his sister, Ellen (Barry) Sapperstein; and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his partner of 45 years, Bobbi Schapiro, along with her children, Ronald (Susan) Schapiro, Adam Winepol and Ricky (Heather) Winepol; grandchildren Merissa, Jonathon, Melody, Ricky Jr., Kelsey, Evelyn, Carlie, Alex and Tyler; and great-grandchild Jason.
