Summer 2017 at Camp Louise has officially begun! Camp only started two weeks ago, but it’s already been an awesome summer. Camp is a place where you can be someone who you never thought you could be. At camp, I have learned that I really love the nature and outdoors activities that we get to do. These past weeks, I’ve already gotten to do water sports, learn about the environment, play with animals, go on a huge ropes tower, and sleep outside!
Last week we went on a water trip to the lake next to camp and I got to paddle in a kayak and a canoe. I’ve wanted to do that for a long time, and camp is one of the only places that gives me endless opportunities. This week, I got to be in the new Greenhouse, where I learned how to make organic sunburn gel from all natural ingredients. I really enjoyed it because I was learning so much, and didn’t even realize I was learning! Another activity I love at camp is farming. My bunk planted cabbage and got to pet the new goats in camp. Their names are Petunia, Peaches, and Herbs. Sometimes at the farm, we get to help collect the eggs from our chicken coop. Last year, we even got to eat the eggs for breakfast the next morning.
In camp, we have an adventure park, which is a big ropes course tower with three levels. You are harnessed in so you feel really safe going through a bunch of obstacles. At the end of your level, you get to either bungee jump down or go down a zip line! When I went up for my very first time I was pretty nervous, but after being up there for a little, I realized how much fun it was and felt so proud of myself! The outdoor activity that I look forward to the most is called NUTS (Night Under The Stars). At NUTS, you get to experience camping in the outdoors with your bunk for a night. In the woods, we have a designated area that has platforms and tents for us to sleep under. Before bed, you get to make s‘mores around a campfire, and make pancakes for breakfast. At home we don’t get to go camping, so when we have NUTS at camp I really enjoy it!
I never thought I’d be able to do all of these fun outdoorsy things, but at camp I am! At camp I have learned how to care for the environment, and enjoy all the fun it has to offer.
