Virtual Tour of Jewish Padua

May 9, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free
Padua

The BZD and the Jewish Community of Padua are pleased to invite you on a virtual tour of their town, which has a very ancient Jewish history.

We will begin by seeing where Padua is situated to understand some aspects of its development over the past centuries. We’ll see some points of interest in a town famous worldwide for its University. It was the first University to allow Jews to study Medicine and Philosophy in 1500.
Jews have been in Padua since the end of the 13th century.

We will examine the history, see today’s Synagogue still in use, and learn about the former Ashkenazi synagogue burnt down by the Italian fascists in 1943 and, today, a Museum. Lastly, our presenters will showcase some items exhibited in the museum and discuss Jewish life in Padua in the 21st century.
