It was a beautiful night to dance, nosh, schmooze, enjoy the great outdoors and, most of all, shake it up.

More than 400 people turned out Wednesday night, Oct. 4, for the third annual “Harvest Fest: Shake it in the Sukkah,” celebrating the start of the sixth night of the fall festival of Sukkot.

The free two-hour event — held on the fields of the Rosenbloom Owings Mills Jewish Community Center — featured live classic rock grooves by the Sagamore Band, cocktails and ice cream shakes, games and activities, inflatable Skee-Ball, marble painting, bubbles, balloons and caricatures. The gathering also featured a sukkah where attendees were welcome to recite the blessings and shake a lulav and etrog for the holiday.

The event was presented by J Life, a family engagement platform designed to position the Owings Mills JCC as the destination for meaningful Jewish communal experiences.

This year’s observance of Sukkot began last Friday night, Sept. 29, and ends this Saturday evening, Oct. 7. The conclusion of Sukkot marks the beginning of the separate holidays of Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.
