To mark the conclusion of Shabbat as well as the three-month anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel, leaders of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore held “The Braided Candle,” a special Havdalah service to serve as an expression of unity and Am Yisrael Chai.
The spiritual celebration, chaired by Linda S. Elman and Linda A. Hurwitz, was held Saturday night, Jan. 6, at Owings Mills’ Gordon Center for Performing Arts. The evening featured music by the band Acoustic Soul, speeches and light kosher refreshments. More than 150 people attended the free two-hour gathering.
Among the speakers were Baltimore Hebrew Congregation’s Rabbi Andrew Busch and Rabbi Shmuel Silber of Suburban Orthodox Congregation Toras Chaim. The rabbis’ synagogues, which are on adjacent properties in Pikesville, recently made headlines when their pro-Israel signage was desecrated by vandals.
