Next month, 4Front, the local Jewish community’s comprehensive teen initiative housed at the Jewish Community Center, will host 20 fellows and three staff members from Ashkelon, Baltimore’s sister city in Israel, as part of the Diller Teen Fellows program.
Diller is a yearlong immersive leadership program inviting teens from six continents and 32 communities to step up and participate in tikkun olam, the Jewish precept for repairing the world.
The group will come to Baltimore from Apr. 9 to 16. Participants will learn about the local community from the 4Front and Ashkelon staffs; visit Baltimore and meet with representatives of the Jewish Museum of Maryland; and confer with leaders of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, the JCC and area rabbis.
In addition, they will take trips to the Inner Harbor, Fells Point and M&T Bank stadium, as well as enjoy a pirate ship tour with Urban Pirates. The weeklong trip also includes a Shabbaton with Baltimore and Ashkelon fellows coming together.
During their time in Baltimore, Ashkelon fellows will be home-hosted by their local counterparts. Baltimore Diller fellows are currently scheduled to visit Israel from June 30 to July 22, which usually includes a week-long trip to Ashkelon for a home-hosted experience.
Recruitment for 4Front’s 2024 Signature programs will begin next Monday, Mar. 18. For information, visit 4frontbaltimore.org.
