For more than six decades, Stanley H. Block was regarded as one of the best and most trusted tax attorneys in the Baltimore metropolitan area.

A Pikesville resident and founder/owner/principal attorney of S.H. Block Tax Service in downtown Baltimore, Block passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 7. He was 92.

After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War and receiving several honors for his services as a communications transmitter, Block graduated from Baltimore City College.

He passed the bar after graduating from the Eastern College of Commerce & Law (today known as the University of Baltimore School of Law) in 1961.

Throughout his career, Block was self-employed. Since 1999, he was the owner of S.H. Block Tax Service, serving clients in Baltimore and its contiguous counties and specializing in IRS problem resolution.

In 2009, he was given a “Top Practitioner” award by the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers.

Block was also a member of Amicable-St. John’s Lodge #25, the state’s third oldest Freemason lodge.

“Stanley was a lifelong Baltimore native, Coast Guard member, and also a Mason,” his family wrote on the website of Sol Levinson & Bros. “He was an attorney since 1961 and changed the lives of many. Stanley was dedicated to his family and friends and loved to travel. His lifelong passion was music and dancing.”

Block is survived by his wife, Lynda Block (nee Zadera); his children, Adam (Ashley) Block, Carly (John) Knott and Marcy Block (Angela Cardia); and his grandchildren, Aliya, Alden, Martin, James, Elana, Oliver and Sienna.

He was predeceased by his sister, Ina Berman and parents, Rose and Henry Block.
