Baltimore Humane Society Celebrates 90th Birthday

More than 200 animal lovers attended the Baltimore Humane Society‘s “90th Birthday Bash,” held on Nov. 4 at the organization’s 365-acre campus at 1601 Nicodemus Road in Reisterstown. All proceeds benefited the BHS, a private, no-kill animal shelter.

The gala featured games, contests, music, yoga demonstrations, an obstacle course, helicopter rides, fall crafts, members of the Baltimore Blast soccer team, food trucks and vendors, and other activities for humans, canines and other critters.

Among the entertainers at the five-hour party were the Big Band Theory of Baltimore, Shelby Blondell, Keiron Brian Raphael and Plevyak.

“The Birthday Bash was a fun way to mark our 90th year of saving and re-homing pets,” said Wendy Goldband, director of marketing and public relations for the BHS. “We had some great musicians playing all afternoon. Davon Fleming, the Baltimore finalist from ‘The Voice,’ stopped by to say happy birthday and take some selfies with people. We even had helicopter rides so people could get a bird’s eye view of our gorgeous 365-acre property which is a wildlife sanctuary.

“We’re very excited this year because we have had record-breaking numbers of adoptions to go along with this historic birthday,” she said. “But that means we need even more support to keep up the work we’re doing. We’ve been able to take in animals from municipal shelters all over the state and beyond to help lighten the number of animals in their cages as well.

“We so appreciate when the community comes out to our events. It’s through events like this and donations that we are able to keep our doors open since we don’t receive any funds from the government or national humane societies.”
