Athleisure Evolution: Performance-Wear as Fashion Staple

Whether fitness is one of your new year’s resolutions or you just want to look great for carpool drop-offs, weekend errands or coffee dates, the latest athleisure styles combine both fashion and function gorgeously.

With athleisure the only segment of the retail industry that has grown in recent years, virtually every designer has entered the performance wear market. Happily, there’s no longer any reason to trade style for comfort. What’s more, many of the season’s workout garments can move seamlessly from the gym or studio to the street and in some cases, even to the office!

Athleisure’s influence can be seen in everything we wear from supportive sports bras and bralettes in vibrant prints and colors to oversized parkas, waterproof, wind resistant anoraks and silk bomber jackets in technical textiles.

Cut-outs, widely seen on red carpets, have made the jump to workout togs. Ditto for fishnet and mesh paneling which grace many of the season’s crop tops and tanks.

And just in time for winter, spring shows up on leggings bedecked in an array of eye popping prints with palm trees, bold florals and abstract fluorescent designs sure to brighten even the gloomiest of days.
