HOW ONE AMAZING CAT SPREADS A POWERFUL MESSAGE

This is the story of Mittens… a domestic shorthair tiger-striped tabby cat.  She could have had an ordinary life. But tragedy has a way of changing ordinary.

The story of Mittens began in 2011. Mittens was nursing a litter of four kittens when two teenage boys

put her in a milk crate, covered her with lighter fluid and set her on fire.

This is just one of many cases of animal cruelty that take place in our community. Some end in death for the helpless animal victims. Mittens survived. And her injury marked the beginning of an amazing journey that has turned her into an ambassador in the fight to end animal abuse.

I’m writing just a short post because Mittens’ story is best told by Cindy Wright, a volunteer at BARCS and a board member of a rescue group called Animal Allies Rescue Foundation (AARF). Cindy adopted Mittens and watches in amazement as her beloved cat’s story continues to evolve.

Mittens spreads a powerful message with just the right combination of grace and glamour, a regal demeanor, a little meow and a lot of courage.

Watch this video to see and hear Mittens story.

Spoiler alert: Mittens’ latest achievement has turned her into a cover girl.
