One of the many amazing teachers at Krieger Schechter Day School of Chizuk Amuno Congregation is Tzipora Wecker (Morah Wecker), a math and band elective teacher in the middle school since 2010. She is also a teacher of Hebrew language, multiple prayer and weekly Torah classes, as well as the instructor of recorder and general music.
Wecker, who taught in Pennsylvania prior to KSDS, is considered a student favorite for her kindness and passion. Outside of school, Wecker displays her extraordinary talents performing in local concerts, mainly playing the flute, violin and viola.
Wecker’s musical roots date back to her childhood. Even though she was not initially interested in instrumental music, her love and talent grew throughout the years.
“At a young age, my mom taught me the recorder, but I wasn’t particularly interested in music back then,” Wecker said.
Today, however, Wecker is an accomplished musician. “I mostly perform with music groups locally around Baltimore,” she noted. “I like playing many different songs, but one of my favorites is Pachelbel’s Canon [written by Johann Pachelbel]. I’ve been playing it with my mom for decades.”
According to Wecker, being a musician helps her in the classroom. “Math and music often use similar parts of the brain, creating fascinating overlaps and connections between them. I frequently find myself mentioning examples from one subject in the context of the other.”
Wecker loves teaching math and music but enjoys a wide range of classes. “Surrounding myself with a variety of subjects is the most gratifying, as opposed to teaching just one subject all day long, which can get boring,” she explained. “I also enjoy the opportunity to make use of several different areas of strength for me on a daily basis.”
The head of the middle school, Dr. Robyn Blum, said, “She has a beautiful tone to her instrument music, a love of music, and a deep understanding of the power of music to move people emotionally.” Wecker is a passionate and inspirational musician with the power to inspire children and adults.
When asked about working with Wecker, Blum said, “The thing I love about Morah Wecker is her attention to detail. I like to think of myself as a detailed person, and she is even more meticulous in her details than I am. She takes responsibility very seriously; she loves her students, plans thoughtfully, and reflects thoroughly on what best benefits her students. She really understands the full perspective of who we are as a Jewish day school.”
With her passion and dedication to music education, Wecker is an incredible asset to the KSDS family. KSDS students look forward to more musical magic from Wecker in the future.
