Baltimore has a great Jewish community. Our parents and grandparents — and even our great-grandparents — arrived here, started families and businesses, founded synagogues and temples, and established communal and philanthropic organizations. To this day, Jews from many other U.S. cities want to live in Baltimore and be part of this wonderful community. There are now more than 120,000 Jews in the metropolitan area. This is a great place for Jews to live.
Jews in Baltimore — religious or secular, or in between — are truly proud of their heritage and want their children to grow up here and know where they and their parents came from. They want the culture, community and religion to stay strong and thrive.
Great communities need great communications vehicles. JMORE will strive to be that vehicle for our community. We will report on what happens here with veteran writers and editors who live here and raise their children here.
We will cover and support Israel and report on news from all over the world, but our focus will be local. As the grandson of immigrants and the husband of the wonderful daughter of Holocaust survivors, this matters to me.
JMORE will provide a well-produced, free, monthly magazine, along with a dynamic digital presence and social media platforms. JMORE expects to reach virtually every member of the community, plus some who have moved away and want to stay connected.
While we will produce true journalism, we also will be conscious of our responsibility to support the institutions that make this community strong, vibrant and unique. We will promote the activities of those communal organizations, as well as the leaders who are the drivers of positive action.
Jewish schools, congregations and nonprofit groups are vitally important to this community. They are the backbone. Charitable giving is important. Businesses owned within the Jewish community are important.
JMORE also will be socially conscious. The Hebrew prophet Micah said, in response to the question of what God wants from us, “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” I will discuss this issue further in future ‘From The Publisher’ columns.
JMORE will engage our children and our young adults. We will use our profits to support programs that support the young people in the community. We will report on children’s programs and folks who support these causes.
Our community’s millennials are a key target of this publication. We encourage you to support JMORE on Facebook, Twitter and on our email list. Find out more at www.jmoreliving.com.
Last but not least, JMORE will be a fun, engaging and upbeat read. Restaurants, fashion, milestones, trends, lifestyle matters, sports and recreational activities will be covered. Please remember that this is your community media project, and JMORE welcomes your input, ideas and feedback.
Thanks for all of your support. We at JMORE look forward to serving our truly wonderful community. Please let us hear from you.
The JMORE team wishes you and your family a happy and healthy new year.
Sincerely,
