(Please note that due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, the Jewish Volunteer Connection staff and “Community Mitzvah Day” leadership have made the decision to cancel the public and in-person signature site gathering scheduled for Friday, December 24 at the Park Heights Jewish Community Center.)
For the 16th year, Jewish Volunteer Connection will hold its annual “Community Mitzvah Day,” a Christmas Eve volunteer event that benefits more than 4,000 residents of the greater Baltimore metropolitan area.
“Community Mitzvah Day” will be held at various times and locations throughout Friday, Dec. 24.
The volunteer arm of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, JVC recruits more than 1,000 volunteers annually for “Community Mitzvah Day” to help those in need. Volunteer opportunities include assembling winter care packages, making fleece blankets, packing lunches, writing notes of encouragement, sorting baby supplies, creating a safe environment for shelter animals and more. In addition, throughout the day, volunteers will serve holiday meals at shelters across Baltimore.
Volunteers at the signature site event at the Park Heights JCC were expected to assemble and deliver more than 2,100 care packages of winter essentials (hand-knitted scarves and hats by local community members, gloves, toiletries, snacks, etc.) to local homeless shelters.
Jmore is a co-sponsor of “Community Mitzvah Day.”
