A pair of famous Ontario natives — comedian/actor Martin Short and band leader Paul Shaffer — will headline LifeBridge Health’s “Magic of Life Gala” on Saturday, Apr. 30.
The biennial gala — which will be held at 6 p.m. at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St. — was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic
“As a health system, our team members have been on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, so we are thrilled to be able to come together this year at the Magic of Life Gala to recognize and celebrate their amazing work,” said LifeBridge Health president & CEO Neil Meltzer.
The signature event honors LifeBridge team members, executives, physicians, partners, patients, donors and board members for their commitment to upholding the organization’s “Care Bravely” credo.
This year’s “Magic of Life” co-chairs are Keith and Alissa Attman, Dan and Gina Hirschhorn, and Jimmy and Donna Smith.
“With such a momentous occasion, we are also excited to have three powerhouse couples and pillars of the community as co-chairs for this event, which raises vital funds to support programs and services at LifeBridge Health that benefit our patients, our caregivers and our communities,” said Meltzer.
At the event, LifeBridge will present its first-ever Lifetime Philanthropy Achievement Award to longtime community philanthropists Phyllis L. and Leonard J. Attman.
“LifeBridge Health is truly grateful for their generosity throughout the years,” the organization said in a statement.
The versatile Martin Short is known for an array of memorable film and TV characters, including in the recent Hulu hit “Only Murders in the Building,” “Father of the Bride,” “Three Amigos” and the cowlicked, hyper-frenetic man-child Ed Grimley on “Saturday Night Live.”
Short is the author of the memoir, “I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend.”
Paul Shaffer is best known as David Letterman’s musical director for 33 years. He also played in the house band on “Saturday Night Live,” and serves as musical director and producer of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
Created more than two decades ago, the “Magic of Life Gala” is the second largest one-day nonprofit fundraiser in the greater Baltimore area. The event raises funds for Sinai Hospital, Northwest Hospital, Carroll Hospital, Levindale Geriatric Center and Hospital, and Grace Medical Center.
In 2018, more than 1,800 people attended the gala, which raised more than $3.7 million for the health care system. Despite having to cancel the event in 2020, LifeBridge Health raised $3.4 million that year to support its programs and services.
