Canton’s 2910 on the Square to Close its Doors at End of the Month

After 23 years in business, the Canton boutique 2910 on the Square will close its doors on May 31.

The gift and novelty store — which specializes in Baltimore and Maryland-themed art and merchandise, as well as works by local artists and one-of-a-kind handmade crafts — will have a 50 percent-off sale, including its large selection of Judaica items (mezzuzahs, kippot, menorahs and dreidels).

Stephanie Fleishman, owner of 2910 on the Square, with her furry co-worker, Winston.

In a message to customers, Canton resident Stephanie Fleishman, the owner and operator of 2910 on the Square, said she was closing the business “after much thought” because her landlord is selling the building. She wrote that she hopes to eventually sell the business as well.

“In 1999, I decided to leave my full-time job in corporate America to become my own boss and take a chance on creating a retail shop as Canton was going through a transformation,” wrote Fleishman, a Milwaukee native who moved to Baltimore in 1994 after finishing college. “I wanted my place to have items that were unique, functional and affordable for those of us living in rowhomes. Over the years, with advice from customers and 2910 Angels (aka my staff), we expanded our inventory. We found or were approached by local artists and makers and shifted our focus to feature many Maryland-made items. I have met many wonderful people and watched you get married, have kids, move away, then come back and share stories from years ago.  …

“Thank you for an amazing 23 years and for being part of our journey.”

The store, which opened on Mother’s Day of 1999, is located at 2910 O’Donnell St. on O’Donnell Square. On its website, the Canton Community Association wrote, “The CCA thanks Stephanie for all she’s brought to our community. 2910 may be closing, and we’ll miss the fun shopping, but we know we’ll see her around the block … or hopefully, at one of our many committees as she continues her valuable volunteerism in our neighborhood! Best of luck to you, Stephanie!”
