Whether you’re part of a loving couple or just loving yourself, you deserve a romantic night on the town. Beauty couture specialist Ariel Lewis, owner of Airbrush Makeup by Ariel and The Alist, shows how to transform professional daytime looks into ravishingly romantic evening glow without starting from scratch.
Eye Candy
Daytime makeup should always be significantly lighter than your evening look. Use no more than two shades of eyeshadow during the day – one shade on the lid and one above your lid under your brow bone. At night, wear up to three different eyeshadow shades – one on your eyelid, one under your brow bone and one in the eye crease. The color you choose to apply to the crease should be one to two shades deeper and/or darker than the lid color.
Intensify your eye makeup for eveningwear by applying a darker liner. If you typically wear brown liner during the day, consider switching to black for nighttime. There’s no need to remove brown liner before applying black. Just apply the black over the brown and go!
Chic Cheeks
This time of year, it’s all about the mauve and berry tones. Keep this in mind when you’re choosing blush colors. Stay away from corals and cherries which are more appropriate for the spring and summer. Neutral tones like browns and taupes are always in season!
Luscious Lips
Matte lipstick – lipstick with absolutely no shine – is uber-popular
this season. Though dramatic, matte lipsticks are fine for daytime wear. Just be mindful of the hue. Daytime lip shades should be close ton your natural lip color, and it’s best to avoid deep browns and reds at the office. Instead, stick to brownish pinks 1 or lighter mauve tones for work.
To keep your lips looking natural, select just one product – a gloss or a lipstick. And don’t underestimate the appeal of an old-fashioned ChapStick to keep lips moist when going for a healthy and understated look.
After work hours, opt for a deeper mauve, berry, brown, taupe or red. Accentuate your lips further by using a matching lip pencil to trace just outside the natural outline of your lips.
Dewey Skin
Winter skin can get dry and chapped. Keep yours looking smooth despite the cold by mixing a bit of moisturizer or hydrating oil 2 into your foundation.
Steer away from setting powders at this time of year. Instead, try using a makeup setting spray 3 to prevent cosmetics from settling into fine lines and to “lock in” your look from morning to night.
