Fall Fashion: Children’s Outerwear Mirrors Adult Styles

Sure, kids should be kids. But that doesn’t mean they can’t also be fashion plates.

This fall, children’s styles are anything but childish, mirroring adult looks to a (designer) tee.

Images of royal children Prince George and Princess Charlotte have spawned a resurgence in classic outerwear, including navy pea coats, ruffled princess coats and quilted, Barbour-inspired jackets. (Wonder which designers will be favored by Royal Baby No. 3?)

Faux fur, spotted on North West (daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West), is another fall trend enticing mothers and daughters alike. Look for leopard print coats, faux shearling jackets and multi-colored cropped fur vests.

Classic American sportswear reigns supreme for boys, with Appaman leather and puffer jackets — seen recently on Kai Schreiber, son of actors Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber — making strong style statements.

For those nostalgic for sweet flourishes, all’s not lost. Whimsical touches abound, with critter-inspired hats and jackets for boys and hats and gloves speckled with sequined stars, and winter toppers sprinkled with cheery felt posies for the little ladies.
