Keep Punching Inc., a Pikesville-based nonprofit supporting patients, health care providers and researchers in the fight to prevent and eradicate brain cancer, announced it will hold its eighth annual 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk on Sunday, Sept. 12, at Goucher College, 1021 Dulaney Valley Rd. in Towson.
Keep Punching was founded in 2013 during the last year of co-founder Daron Fisher’s battle with a glioblastoma. A Pikesville father of two — daughter Alana and son Emory — Daron was an advertising copywriter at MGH, Inc., where his most high-profile project [mghus.com], the “Utz Girl/Mr. Boh” engagement billboard for Smyth Jewelers, achieved iconic status in Baltimore.
Over the past eight years, Keep Punching has raised most of its funds through its annual races. Interested participants can learn more and register to run or walk at keeppunching5k.com. Registration fee for the 5K is $32 and $22 for the 1-mile walk. Participants can also register as a “virtual 5K runner” for $32 or $22 as a “virtual 1-mile walker” to support the cause if they cannot attend the race in person.

Keep Punching maintains a three-pronged approach of addressing brain cancer, with funds raised from the races directly supporting patients, health care providers and researchers through grants. Patient support grants include funds for medical and lifestyle support equipment that may not be covered by medical insurance, such as mobility aids, bathroom and bedroom adaptive equipment, and small exercise equipment.
“We are amazed by the difference Keep Punching has been able to make for those affected by brain cancer through these annual races since they launched four years ago,” said Keep Punching Co-Founder Beth Fisher, Daron’s wife. “Thanks to the participation and support of hundreds of race participants and donations, we are able to continue our mission to eradicate brain cancer by providing grants to patients, healthcare providers and researchers.”
Keep Punching hosts additional fundraising events each year, including an annual Karaoke Night, Karaoke for a Kure. For information about all Keep Punching events, visit keeppunching.org/events.
