Restaurant News: One Saucy Lady

Bubbie Jeanne's Brisket Magic All Purpose Cooking Sauce is back on local grocery shelves.

The magical return of Bubbie Jeanne’s brisket sauce is something to celebrate.

Well, it’s baaack! Yes, Bubbie Jeanne’s Brisket Magic All Purpose Cooking Sauce has returned to the shelves, folks.

Created by longtime Pikesville resident and late-in-life cooking sauce entrepreneur Jeanne Oliner Schlossberg — who died in 2020 at age 98 — Bubbie Jeanne’s is the recipe she made for every occasion that her family sat down for her signature brisket. (FYI, her beaming countenance graces the product’s label.)

The back story is that Schlossberg was attending the bar mitzvah of her eldest son, Mark, at Temple Oheb Shalom in 1960 and asked the caterer there for his brisket sauce recipe because she enjoyed it so much. Then, she commenced tinkering and experimenting with the recipe.

After decades of enjoying his mom’s brisket, Schlossberg’s son, Lee, thought it would be fun to manufacture her culinary creation for others to enjoy. He contacted Lee Cohen at Avenue Gourmet, who helped bring it to market.

Fast-forward, the product was off the market for a while but Lee Cohen decided to bring back the magic sauce.

Bubbie Jeanne’s is a traditional (kosher-style and gluten-free) brisket sauce with carrots, peppers, celery and spices, and it’s super-easy to use. Just pour it over brisket and put it in the oven.

The sauce is available at such local establishments as Farm Chicks Corner Market, Eddie’s of Roland Park, Santoni’s and Graul’s markets. (For information, visit bubbiejeannes.com.)
