From Oct. 11 to Nov. 30, Sol Levinson & Bros. funeral home will sponsor an eight-week donation drive in partnership with Jewish Volunteer Connection to benefit nonprofits throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area.

JVC is the hands-on volunteer branch of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore.

Each week, the drive will accept donations of different items to distribute to charitable groups that support members of the local community. The Levinson website will feature a calendar showing what items will be accepted for each particular week. The items include children’s and adult clothing, books, toiletries and outerwear.

Donated items can be dropped off at Levinson’s, 8900 Reisterstown Rd. in Pikesville, where there will be signage to the specific drop-off location.

Volunteers for the drive can sign up via JVC’s website to help sort items and prepare them for delivery. Up to 10 volunteers will be needed each Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. to process the donations alongside Levinson’s staff.

On Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m., Levinson’s will co-sponsor a community program via Zoom to explore how families and caretakers can help children understand death and express grief, while offering strategies for helping them to cope.

Panelists for “Children & Grief: Building a Toolbox for Resilience and Understanding” include local pediatrician Dr. Sara Spinner-Block; Donna Kane, grief clinician at Jewish Community Services; Matt Levinson, president of Sol Levinson & Bros.; and Rabbi Moshe Schwartz, head of school at Pikesville’s Krieger Schechter Day School.

The event — which is free and open to the community — is co-sponsored with Krieger Schechter and the Mitchell David Center for Hope & Healing, a program of JCS. Additional support for this program provided by the Zimmerman Fund for Children.
