Ed Asner Film ‘Tiger Within’ to Kick Off Gordon Center’s Virtual Fall Film Series

In one of the final performances in his illustrious career, multiple Emmy Award-winning actor Ed Asner — who died in late August at the age of 91 — portrays Samuel, a Holocaust survivor who develops an unlikely bond with a homeless Midwestern teenager.

“Tiger Within” will kick off the “Virtual Fall Film Series” presented by the Gordon Center for Performing Arts in Owings Mills. The series will run from Oct. 18 to Dec. 23, with 48-hour virtual screening windows.

The theme of the series is “Resilience Through Struggle: Films About the Holocaust and Today.” One film be presented virtually each month and feature live virtual discussions with speakers.

Directed by Canadian filmmaker Rafal Zielinkski and co-starring Margot Josefsohn and Luke Eisner, “Tiger Within,’ which was released last December, will be presented from Oct. 18-20.

From Nov. 15-17, the series will present “Plan A,” the story of a group of Jewish Holocaust survivors who in 1945 plan a secret retaliatory operation to poison Germany’s water system. Their objective is to murder six million Germans.

The 2021 film, which is based on a true story and co-stars Israeli actor Michael Aloni of “Shtisel” fame, is sponsored by the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C.

Written and directed by Israeli filmmakers Yoav and Doron Paz, the film is based on the book “Nakam” by Israeli historian Dina Pora and was filmed in Germany, Israel and Ukraine.

The series’ final entry, which will be presented Dec. 21-23, is “A Starry Sky Above the Roman Ghetto.” The 2020 Italian language teen drama chronicles the discovery of a photograph that leads a student to investigate the history of Rome’s Jewish ghetto and the fate of a little girl.
