More than 1,400 people attended Beth Tfilloh Congregation’s “Fired Up!” Chanukah celebration last Sunday evening, Nov. 28.

Held to commemorate the start of the Festival of Lights and the Pikesville synagogue’s yearlong centennial celebration, “Fired Up!” featured a program with live music by the a cappella band Six13, holiday treats such as sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts) and latkes, a spectacular fireworks show and the lighting of a giant menorah.

The event also featured a sock drive to help those in need, for Jewish Volunteer Connection’s community-wide Mitzvah Day on Friday, Dec. 24.

“Fired Up!” was co-sponsored by the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School Parents Association.

The largest Modern Orthodox congregation in the nation, Beth Tfiloh has a membership of more than 1,200 families and individuals. The synagogue was founded in 1921 in the Forest Park community, and its first spiritual leader was Rabbi Dr. Samuel Rosenblatt, a noted Jewish scholar and son of the internationally celebrated Cantor Joseph “Yossele” Rosenblatt.
