After nearly two decades at 1819 Reisterstown Rd., Pikesville’s Barnes & Noble Booksellers will move around the corner this fall to the former site of the Pier 1 Imports store in the Festival at Woodholme shopping center.
At a reported 8,683 square feet, the future location is significantly smaller than Barnes & Noble’s current site, which is listed as more than 24,000 square feet and formerly housed the now-defunct, Baltimore-based Bibelot bookstore.
Barnes & Noble moved into the facility in June of 2003. For several months, rumors have circulated in the community that Barnes & Noble was leaving Pikesville.
No announcement has been made yet about a new occupant at that freestanding building.
“The bookseller has truly enjoyed serving this community and appreciates the loyalty and support of their customers,” the New York-based Barnes & Noble said in a statement. “The new bookstore will showcase an updated design and layout that has been rolled out, to much success, in its more recent new store openings. The newly designed store features a warm environment that encourages browsing, along with a locally tailored selection of books curated by their expert team of Pikesville booksellers.”
In a statement, Beth Rheingold, president of the Greater Baltimore Chamber of Commerce, said, “The Greater Baltimore Chamber is committed to the economic vitality of our region. We enthusiastically support this move for Barnes and Noble, which promises a fresh new look and a focus on local interests. It is a good economic sign when customers want to spend time browsing in our local retail spaces. The vacancy left by the move will be a great opportunity to bring in another anchor store to Pikesville.”
Barnes & Noble closed its Inner Harbor bookstore at Power Plant Live! in August of 2020.
