About The Panelists

Dr. John B. Chessare has been an active and visionary leader in the health care field for more than three decades and was appointed GBMC HealthCare’s President and CEO in 2010. A pediatrician by training, Dr. Chessare has served in executive-level health care leadership roles throughout his career and has led clinical and administrative teams of organizations toward improvement in health outcomes, patient and staff satisfaction as well as reduced wait times and profit maximization. He has been instrumental in a number of quality and performance improvement initiatives, including GBMC HealthCare’s 2020 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest presidential honor for performance excellence.

Jon Hershfield, MFT, is the director of The Center for OCD and Anxiety, Sheppard Pratt’s private pay, outpatient treatment center for individuals with obsessive-compulsive and anxiety-related disorders and director of the OCD Program at The Retreat, where Sheppard Pratt offers residential treatment for those who can benefit from a higher level of care. He is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in five states, and is a Maryland Approved Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor and AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Jon is also a member of the Scientific and Clinical Advisory Board of the International OCD Foundation and on the faculty of the foundation’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute.

Dr. Helen Hughes serves as Medical Director for Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Office of Telemedicine and Medical Director of Pediatric Telemedicine for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Dr. Hughes is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Hughes attended medical school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and received a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She completed a residency in pediatrics and served as Chief Resident at Johns Hopkins where she stayed on to complete a research fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics. Since 2021, she has served as one of three national expert consultations to the Association of American Medical Collect on the topic of Telehealth and Health Care Equity.

Dr. Alan H. Shikani is the chief of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the LifeBridge Sinai Hospital. He is the founder and director of the Maryland ENT Center and the founder and director of the Maryland Nose and Sinus Center-Rhinology Fellowship Program. He has trained numerous ENT doctors who have come from different parts of the world to train with him specializing in rhinology. Dr. Shikani was named Baltimore Top Doc every year from 2012 through 2022. Dr. Shikani did his residency and fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology, fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and member of numerous other national societies. He is also a fellow of the Triological Society, the most prestigious society in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery in the U.S.

Adam Silverman, DPM is the Wound Care Medical Director for MVS Wound Care & Hyperbarics. Dr. Silverman is a Diplomate, American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and serves on the Maryland Podiatric Medical Association. He was honored by his peers in 2020 as one of Baltimore’s Top Doctors. In addition to his work with MVS Wound Care & Hyperbarics, Dr. Silverman is in private practice.
