More than 1,000 members of the community dropped by the parking lot of Beth Tfiloh on Tuesday night, Apr. 25, for the Pikesville congregation’s annual Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) celebration.

Attendees of 75th birthday soiree enjoyed Israeli-style food catered by Pikesville’s Yesh Hummus and Grill, wine and snacks, crafts, henna-decorating, a multi-tiered birthday cake from Pariser’s Bakery, camels, a replicated shuk and more.

The evening also marked the debut of Beth Tfiloh’s new chazzan, Baltimore native Pinny Schachter, who led the tefillah (prayers) and music throughout the celebration, along with local musician Avraham Rosenblum and the Diasporados.

Beth Tfiloh is the nation’s largest Modern Orthodox synagogue. The Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration was made possible through the Haron & Rachel Dahan Foundation.

Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School will be among the partners of the community-wide “Israel @ 75” celebration to be held this Sunday, Apr. 30, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at Chizuk Amuno Synagogue, 8100 Stevenson Rd. in Pikesville.  For information, visit bzdisrael.org/the-baltimore-community-celebrates-israel-75/.
