Remains of Suspected Murderer of Northwest Baltimore Father Recovered, Say D.C. Police

Washington, D.C., police officials say they found the remains of the fugitive who allegedly murdered Aryeh Isaac Wolf, a 25-year-old man from Northwest Baltimore and a 2015 graduate of the Talmudical Academy of Baltimore.

Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Elizabeth Grannis said the remains of Avery Miler, 27, were found on Apr. 4 and positively identified. The cause of death is “undetermined,” according to a medical examiner.

Miler is suspected of killing Wolf on Aug. 10, 2022. No motive was determined. At the time, Wolf was installing solar panels on a building in Southeast Washington when he was shot. Investigators released a picture of the person suspected of killing Wolf shortly after the shooting.

Witnesses said they heard five shots and saw Wolf lying on a sidewalk shortly after he was working on an electrical box. Witnesses said they believe the shooter was on foot and ran away after the attack.

The son of a Elise Wolf, the general studies principal at Bais Yaakov School for Girls, Aryeh Wolf was a former counselor at Camp Simcha, a New York camp for children with cancer and other blood disorders. On social media, the camp called him “a beloved former Camp Simcha counselor who we will always remember for his chesed [kindness] and dedication to helping others.”

Investigators issued an arrest warrant for Miler, a resident of Washington, and charged him with first-degree murder while armed. The following month, someone spotted Miler in the 5300 block of Ames Street in northeastern D.C. Miler allegedly fired at police officers who responded to the tip, according to Metropolitan Police Department.

A SWAT team assisted officers in closing off several blocks around the scene where the reported gunfire occurred, but Miler was able to flee from the area.

Aryeh Wolf is survived by his wife, Mindy Wolf (nee Aron); his young daughter, Zahava Wolf; his parents, Asher and Elise Wolf; and his siblings, Hadassah (Zaycharia) Blackstrin, Leah (Shimon) Deutsch, Shlomo (Adina) Wolf and Shmuel Wolf.
